Permitting Is Not the Same Everywhere in the Valley
Know which counter you’re standing at. Most of the Valley is City of Los Angeles, so LADBS issues your permit — Chatsworth, Granada Hills, Porter Ranch, West Hills, Woodland Hills, Northridge and the rest. But San Fernando, Burbank, Glendale, Calabasas and Hidden Hills each run their own building departments, and the unincorporated pockets go through Los Angeles County Public Works. Cross into Ventura County and both Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks permit locally. For most of our work it’s moot. A like-for-like cabinet and counter replacement usually needs no permit at all, though moving plumbing, gas or electrical always does.
